除雪作業／タイオガロード・グレイシャーポイントロード

NPSによると、タイオガロードの除雪作業は4/15から、グレイシャーポイントロードは4/18から始まるようです。なお開通日はまだ未定です。
今年は雪が多そうですから、5月中旬以降にずれ込むこともあるでしょう。

50-60’sヨセミテ・クライミングの黎明期に活躍したクライマーのトム・フロストによるトークイベントが3/23夜にヴァレー・ビジターセンターのWest Auditoriumで行われます。

Tom Frost will present a talk at 7:00 PM in the West Auditorium.? Tom Frost is a major climbing figure from the 50s and 60s, contributed to gear design and climbing philosophy, helped Yvon Chouinard set up Patagonia, is in the Vertical Frontiers movie, is a well known American Alpine Club member, and worked with the Service to nominate Camp 4 to the National Register.? ハイブリッド・シャトルバス

NPSのDaily Reportによるとヴァレー内のシャトルバスが４月からハイブリッドシステムを搭載した新型車にリプレイスされるらしく、１号車が昨日到着したようです。燃費の大幅な改善と有害物質や騒音の削減ができるということです。
The 1st of 18 new hybrid electric shuttle buses will be arriving in Yosemite Valley today. The remaining 17 will be delivered to the park over the course of the next two months. The new hybrid fleet will replace the existing fleet of 1986 diesel buses currently servicing the in-Valley shuttle route. Hybrid electric propulsion technology, which was built by General Motors Allison Transmission Division, will significantly reduce fuel consumption (by up to 55%), harmful emissions (by up to 90%),? and vehicle noise. The 1st bus will be used to train drivers and mechanics, so it won’t see visitor service until April; however, the good folks who operate and maintain the shuttle system (Delaware North Company) will be happy to show it off to interested park employees. Be on the lookout for the new white and green “Yosemite Shuttle” bus with the battery pack on the roof !? (M. Wichmann – 3/8/05)?????

ヨセミテヴァレーからハーフドームを眺望する数々のポイントのなかでも、ここは前景にマーセド川が入ることで有名です。夕陽で赤く染まる時刻には橋の上にいくつもの三脚が立ち並びます。
シャトルバスで「センティネル・ブリッジ」で降りてすぐです。

Half Dome Vista




　ハーフドームは谷底から1488mの高さでそびえ立っています。
　ハーフドームはもともと丸いド−ムで、ヨセミテヴァレーが氷河におおわれる前はもっと大きかったと思われますが、氷河は頂上までは届いていなかったようです。
　この写真でもわかりますが、岩の表面の陰影が、左を向いている先住民の顔のように見えます。

エル・キャピタン

　エルキャピタンの頂上は、谷底から1097mの高さにあり、世界中のロッククライマ−が挑戦しています。何日もかけてエルキャピタンの頂上にのぼるロッククライマ−の姿が、冬以外の季節はいつも見ることができます。（双眼鏡を用意されることをお勧めします。）この垂直の岩壁は1958年に43日間かかってようやく初登されました。
　春から夏にはこの岩壁に営巣するハヤブサ（ペルグリン　ファルコン）を見ることができるかもしれません。
