今日お昼（現地時間3月15日）にヴァレーに入りました。ヴァレーフロアにはほとんど雪がありません。日中の気温は摂氏20度前後でした。ジャケットも不要。（朝夕は冷えると思います。）
ヨセミテ・フォールの水量はほどほどにあります。この時期はビジターもクルマも少なく、ヴァレー内はとても静かです。
トンネル・ビューからです。雪はハーフドームの頭にはほんの少しだけ見えていますが、その奥のクラウズレストにはたっぷりありそうです。
アワニーメドウからみたハーフドーム、ウェブカメラと同じ位置ですね。
草原にはもう雪は皆無です。もうしばらくすると、青々と茂ってくることでしょう。
関係者の話では今年はほんとに雪が少ないので、タイオガロードやグレイシャーポイントロードは5月中旬にはオープンするのではということでした。そして滝が枯れ上がるのもはやいかもしれません。

ブッシュ大統領、国立公園への予算増強
本日受け取ったY.A.からのEメールニュースに以下のような記事が出ていました。
シーズナルレンジャー（夏期限定の季節雇用）や道路や施設メンテナンスの充実が図られるようです。
ヨセミテ国立公園でも昨年度比13%アップの予算が組まれているということです。

President Bush Proposes Budget Increase for National Parks
In his proposed budget last week, President Bush set aside $2.4 billion to help reverse chronic funding shortages in national parks. The money, a combination of public and private funds, would pay for a much needed increase in seasonal rangers and maintenance and construction. As part of this proposal, Yosemite could see as much as a 13% increase in funding over its 2006 budget.

ヘッダー写真更新
久しぶりに、ヘッダーの写真を新しく入れ替えました。
これはブリッスル・コーンパインの群生地のあるホワイトマウンテンから、遠くにシエラ山脈を望む写真です。
年間入園パス値上げ
Y.A.のメールマガジンによると、国立公園の年間入園パスが模様替えし、今年1月1日より値上げになった模様。
これまでNPS管理の国立公園、国立史跡等でのみ通用していた「National Parks Pass（年間50ドル）」は廃止され、「America the Beautiful Pass（年間80ドル）」として、NPSのほか、連邦政府機関が管理するサイトに入園できるようです。
しかし、それにしても実質的な値上げですよね。

Beginning January 1, 2007, the National Park Pass and the Golden Eagle Pass were discontinued and
replaced with new America the Beautiful passes. The passes provide access to and use of NPS, USDA FS, FWS, BLM and Reclamation sites which charge an entrance or standard fee for one annual fee. New
rates for the America the Beautiful Pass are $80 for 12 months and $10 for seniors.

新年おめでとうございます。
本年も「ヨセミテ国立公園大好き！」をよろしくおねがいいたします。
昨年はタイオガロード開通が遅れ、また140号線ルートの崩落などいろいろあった年でした。
2007年はどんな年になるでしょうか。皆さんが安心してヨセミテを楽しめる年になるといいいですね。
このサイトも、引き続きみなさんのヨセミテ行きが良いものになるよう、応援していきたいと思います。

Manzanar National Historic Site
8月のヨセミテ行きの際に、足を伸ばしてイースタンシエラ、インデペンデンスの南5マイルにある「Manzanar National Historic Site」を訪問してきました。ここは第2次大戦中に日系人の強制収容所「Manzanar War Relocation Center」が設けられ、現在はNPSが管理する国立歴史史跡となっています。
1942年、合衆国政府は女性や子どもを含む11万人以上の在米日本人およびアメリカ国籍をもつ日系人に対して、全米10ヶ所に設けられた収容所への強制移転を命令しました。ここマンザナールはそのうちの一つです。
こうした展示は日本人にはキツイですね。
夏の日中は摂氏40度を超え、夜には10度以下にまで下がるという砂漠特有の厳しい気候です。
この日もSFから直行という強行軍の移動で、到着したのは夕方になりましたが、まだ頭がクラクラしそうなほど暑かったです。
このような厳しい土地での生活を余儀なくされた先人の苦労が忍ばれます。

ヨセミテ渓谷南側道路の閉鎖
ヨセミテ渓谷南側道路（東行き一方通行）が配管工事のため12/15まで閉鎖となります。エルキャピタン交差〜チャペルの区間で、代わりに北側道路が東西両側通行となります。

Closure of Southside Drive in Yosemite Valley
Schedule: Southside Drive road segment between El Capitan Crossover and the Chapel closed 10/25/06 – 12/15/06 to begin potholing for the utilities and placement of the culvert pipes.
In regards to traffic control>> Southside Drive will be closed from El Capitan Crossover east to the Chapel, then the short segment from the Chapel to the Sentinel Bridge Intersection will become a 2-way road, then El Capitan Crossover will become one way traffic heading north and Northside Drive between El Capitan Crossover and Yosemite Lodge will become a 2-way road. ワワナ〜マリポサグローブ間のシャトルバスサービスが10月末でサービスを終了しました。
また降雪期には除雪作業はされず、マリポサグローブロードは車輛通行止めとなります。
The Mariposa Grove Shuttle Bus service from Wawona to the Mariposa Grove has ended for the season, as of 10/30/06. The restrictions for the Mariposa Grove Road from the South Entrance to the grove are as follows: no buses over 40 feet, and no vehicles with trailers. Vehicles with trailers can drop off trailers at the parking area at the South Entrance. Reminder, the Mariposa Grove Road will close to all vehicles after the first significant snowfall of the season. (M. Brindeiro – 10/31/06)
