Yosemite's Tioga Country
今日のYAニュースに、”Yosemite's Tioga Country”の著者Gene Roseのサイン会がサンフランシスコで開かれるとあるとありました。以下は本の簡単なご紹介。
この本は2006年に出版されました。内容はTioga Countryと言うよりはハイシエラに纏わる歴史をまとめたもので、Walkerのヨセミテ横断から始まり、マリポサ大隊のBolingらによるインディアン捕捉、California Geological Surveyの測量、Muirの氷河に関する研究や、Matthesのヨセミテ渓谷形成に関する調査、Great Sierra Mineにまつわる話、Great Sierra Wagon Road(旧Tioga Road)の建設工事、騎兵隊のヨセミテ国立公園内でのパトロール、Sierra Clubとヨセミテ、Stephen Mather、現在のTioga Roadの建設工事と、興味が尽きないトピックが盛りだくさんです。古地図も含め、かなりの数の貴重な写真が収められており、それを見るだけでも楽しいです。また出展資料もしっかり明記されています。
ハイシエラファンの方にはお勧めの一冊です。
